ESC Board Member Norma Shaub Casts First Vote at Ohio Schools Boards Association Capital Conference

CUYAHOGA FALLS, OHIO—December 31, 2014 Summit County Educational Service Center (ESC) board member Norma Shaub cast her vote for the first time as a new delegate at the 59th annual Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) Capital Conference and Trade Show in Columbus last month. The proposed issues up for vote included changes to OSBA’s investment policy, which would allow Board of Trustees to diversify the association’s portfolio. The motion passed. As a local attorney, Mrs. Shaub’s legal interests led her to attended several sessions on topics including: Bullying lawsuit—minimizing liability; 2014 case law update; Ohio's New Learning Standards, Ohio Education update; and School Law workshop. “I feel strongly that we need to do better with recognizing and preventing bullying,” said Shaub, who is also a mother of four sons. Nearly 10,000 people attended this year’s conference, which included more than 100 sessions of panel discussions, workshops, one-on-one assistance and nationally renowned speakers addressing a variety of educational issues. Keynote presenters at the 2014 Capital Conference included author, clinical psychologist and Huffington Post education blogger Dr. Adam Saenz; author renowned speaker and peak performance expert Dan Thurmon; and teacher and television, film and Broadway state veteran Jeffrey Tambor.
