Notice for Parents Whose Child is Transitioning to Kindergarten...
ORC 3313.671 has been amended to require that beginning with the 2006-2007 school year, kindergarteners must be vaccinated against varicella (chicken pox) disease.
In order to be considered valid, the varicella vaccine must have been administered on or after the child's first birthday. In addition, the law states that, "A pupil who has had natural chicken pox, and presents a signed statement from the pupil's parent, guardian, or physician to that effect, is not required to be immunized against chicken pox", ORC 3313.671 (B) (3).
This will be a progressively implemented law; for the 2007-2008 school year, the varicella vaccine will be required for K-1, and so forth.
Immunizations Required for Day Care, Head Start, Pre-School and School Attendance
